As it turned out, two Philippine National Police officers were the ones who gunned down Citizens Crime Watch regional chairperson in Oriental Mindoro last Sunday night.
One of the officers is a bemedalled municipal police chief.
Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office Senior Supt. Christopher C. Birung said that the charges of murder and direct assault are to be fiiled against Senior Inspector Magdalino G. Pimentel, Jr., of the First Maneuver Platoon of Oriental Mindoro Police Public Safety Company and Inspector Markson S. Almenarez, chief police of Socorro town in the province.
Birung said the charges will be filed against Pimentel Jr. and Almenarez for riding in tandem in a motorcycle and shooting Luz to her death in front of her house in Brgy. Maligaya araound 11:40 pm on Sunday.
Reports show a distress call from Barangay Capt. Dionido Quitain of Brgy. Banutan at 11:30 pm who saw Luz on the pavement with her killers leaving the scene.
The police chased the two but the suspects fired at them, causing an exchange of fires and leaving suspects wounded.
After being arrested, Pimentel and Almenarez were revealed.
Almenarez graduated from PNPA Class of 2013 and was awarded as an outstanding police commissioned officer by PNP chief Ronald Dela Rosa on Sept 8.
