Columnist Teddy Boy Locsin said he was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the new Philippine ambassador at the United Nations (UN) to defend the country in the global union.
"Actually, I couldn't refuse because Duterte said in our one-on-one, 'Don't defend me, I don't need it. Do it for country,'" he said in his Twitter account as his additional information Philippine Daily Inquirer has released.
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesperson Charles Jose said Locsin is expected to defend the country on its policy against drugs and the ongoing extrajudicial killings.
Moreover, Locsin said he was honored to represent the country and promises to be fearless once he is the official UN representative.
Last Sept. 18, Locsin was officially announced as the new Permanent UN ambassador, replacing Lourdes Yparraguirre, after he and Pres. Duterte met at Bahay Pangarap.
